The Southaven Police Department Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team was formed in 1985. Officers assigned to this unit are required to meet rigorous standards in the area of physical fitness and weapons usage. They must also be capable of using specialized equipment and carrying out a tactical operational plan. As a result, the Southaven Police Department now has one of the best-trained and highly skilled tactical units in the country.
This unit is capable of responding to these volatile situations in a controlled manner rather than reacting to them and relying on chance. The primary objective of the SWAT Team is the resolution of high-risk situations with a minimum of force, personal injury, or property damage.
